What items go off on metal detector?

The items that will go off on a metal detector depend on the type and sensitivity of the detector being used. Generally speaking, most detectors will be able to pick up on items made of metal such as coins, jewelry, weapons, and other metallic items.

Some detectors will be able to pick up on these items even if they are buried several feet below the surface. Certain types of detectors are also able to detect items made out of other materials such as wood, plastic, and even certain types of minerals.

More sensitive metal detectors may also be able to detect items that may not necessarily appear to be made of metal. This includes items such as small pieces of metallic foil, wire loops, magnets, and even nails.

When using a more sensitive detector, it is important to remember to look for items that may appear to be non-metallic, but still contain a small amount of metal.

Finally, there are also specialty detectors available for specific types of materials. These detectors are typically more expensive, but can be a great tool when trying to locate any items made from a specific material.

For example, gold detectors are used specifically for finding small traces of gold that may be buried below the surface. Other specialty detectors are available for items such as weapons, coins, jewelry, paleontology, and more.

However, implants that contain other metals such as cobalt or nickel may be picked up by metal detectors. Additionally, non-metal objects may also be detected depending on the strength of the magnet.

For example, medical implants made from plastic or ceramic may be detected in some cases. Therefore, if you have metal or non-metal implants and are concerned about being detected by metal detectors, it is best to inform the operator before the scanning process.
