How long do ACM certificates last?
ACM certificates are valid for one year from the date of issue. During this time, you must recertify the certificate holders with ACM to maintain its working status. This is an important step to take in order to make sure that the certificate remains valid and to ensure that the organization and/or individual is up to date with the current security best practices and regulations.
It is also important to maintain your ACM certificate valid as various software and hardware may require that certificate holders recertify on an annual basis. Similarly, recertification will also ensure that the ACM certificate is applicable and applicable laws and regulations are up to date, helping to protect the security of your organization.
If you fail to recertify your ACM certificate, then the certificate will be revoked and you will be notified and must arrange for a new one.
For any queries regarding recertification and/or the length of an ACM certificate, please seek advice from ACM.
Is ACM legally binding?
No, ACM (the Association for Computing Machinery) is a professional and educational society that does not create legally binding documents. The ACM does create non-binding guidelines for students, faculty and practitioners in computing, including for ethical and professional conduct.
While these guidelines are often seen as a global standard of excellence, they are not legally enforceable. For example, if an individual chooses to act unethically, they will not be in breach of any particular laws, though they may face repercussions from their institution, the ACM or their employer.
ACM membership requires that members adopt their guidelines and suggests that potential members comply with the ACM’s code of ethics. Thus, while ACM is not legally binding, it offers a platform for members to act ethically and professionally in their computing activities.
Does ACM offer scholarships?
Yes, ACM offers scholarships! The ACM Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing Conferences provide a unique opportunity for underrepresented minority students, faculty and professionals in computing to come together, share experiences, exchange information and explore collaborations.
Through financial sponsor grants and scholarships, we assist attendees with veteran status, disabilities, and/or financial need with their travel and registration expenses. Furthermore, ACM supports diversity through the Student Travel Grant Program, which provides quarterly grants to enable student members in good standing to attend and participate in the premier conferences within their discipline.
